Weight Loss Injections: What Do You Need To Know
New Weight Loss Injections Benefits and Negatives
Weight loss injections are growing more popular, from the media to recently being eligible on the NHS. But, do we really know what benefits and negatives these injections can have on our health and weight loss; are alternatives a better option?
NHS Weight Loss Injections
As of September 2023 Wegovy (semaglutide) has been available to those who meet the criteria through the NHS. Also known within the media as ‘Ozempic’. Sparking lots of interest, questions and thoughts amongst many people, what does this weight loss injections do?
The Wegovy injection has to be taken weekly and essentially makes you feel more full and suppresses hunger. Supporting weight loss by making your body reduce cravings for high fat foods and preventing binging.
To be approved for this injection on the NHS you must either have a weight related health condition, classes as obese through your BMI or tried to lose weight through conventional treatment which did not work.
Studies from this drug show within a 15 month period, alongside professional support, following a calorie deficit and exercise plan, people lose on average 15% of their body weight. Alongside lowering blood pressure and supporting many weight related health issues.
The NHS has released that in the next three years around 220,000 people are expected to be treated with this injection.
Are There Any Risks or Side Effects?
Yes, as with every drug there are side effects that come alongside Wegovy. Commonly, people experience nausea and diarrhoea. There have also been few cases where problems such as kidney issues, inflammation of the pancreas and gall bladder disease have occurred.
As this drug is so new, there is still little research on the long term effects and risks this injection may bring, which is why so much concern is currently spirally.
Negative and Alternatives
As of any weight loss ‘quick fix’ there is always a now timeframe rather than approaching it with a sustainable outlook. It has already shown to be common that people are regaining weight extremely quickly after coming off this drug and it isn’t a long term injection to continuously use. The drug doesn’t work without also making lifestyle changes, improving your diet and exercising more frequently.
So, if you take the injection away you’re still making positive changes and targeting a better lifestyle. Although many people may feel it isn’t possible for them without the support of the injection, at FitFarms we teach our customers the knowledge and tools to make progressive and sustainable change no matter you shape, size or health condition. The FitFarms HBMI courses provide a healthier and natural alternative to people considering weight loss injections or a bariatric sleeve. Not being reliant on a drug, in the long term, will make your journey to long term weight loss healthier and more forward moving.
